About ChiSPAN

We are a group of grassroots activists who believe health care is a human right for everyone, not a commodity to be sold only to those who can afford it. We make no distinction between human beings who are documented and undocumented. Our slogan is: “Everybody in, nobody out!”

Access to health care is a matter of life and death. According to the Commonwealth fund, 84,000 people die every year in the United States because they lack access to health care. We think this is a crime against humanity.

CHISPAN activists work to educate the public about the racial and class inequalities in health care and the superiority of a single-payer health care system through our monthly meetings that are open to everyone and public events.

We organize demonstrations, rallies and have engaged in nonviolent, civil disobedience. We are taking the cause of health care social justice to the streets and aim to build a movement that is as big and as influential as the civil rights movement. Hundreds of thousands of people need to unite and fight to make health care a human right. Protest is the way to win!

In order to enact a single-payer health care system, the private, for-profit insurance industry has to be abolished. It’s not possible to regulate these profit-hungry parasites into caring about patients. They have to be put out of business once and for all. Profit has no place in health care!

In this fight, we cannot rely on politicians to lead, especially the Democrats. They are beholden to and accept millions of dollars in campaign contributions from insurance and pharmaceutical corporations. Democrats, even so-called progressive Democrats, don’t bite the hand that feeds them. They have betrayed the American people time and again who pay with their lives.
